Institute of Planning and Development of the Capital The City of Prague has announced winning competitions for the design of new public transport stops for Prague. They were designed by the design couple Michal Froněk and Jan Němeček from the Olgoj Chorchoj studio, together with Aleš Kachlík and Martin Klanica, who are also the authors of the new urban furniture. The aim is to unify urban furniture. The first prototype will be completed in October 2019.

“The winning shelter is made of black-gray powder-coated cast aluminum and, with the exception of one side for advertising, all other walls are transparent. An orientation panel is provided inside the stop, which informs about times and dates, departures, weather forecasts and also bears the name of the stop, “adds the IPR, stating that the first prototype was to be completed in October 2019. only a license agreement was concluded and a tender for the supplier was announced.
Michal Froněk, Jan Němeček, Aleš Kachlík and Martin Klanica designed a total of eight versions of public transport stops, from a simple roof attached to a wall through a mobile shelter to several different variants and sizes of common shelters. The design also includes a railing with and without filling, which could eventually replace the current ugly white-red version with corrugated boards. The designers even designed one stop with a whole back wall as a pass-through, which is to facilitate the movement of people in some cases. A gradual replacement is planned from 2021, a total of 767 pieces are estimated.
