Prague is preparing a new tram line from Kobylis to Bohnice
The tram line should follow the cable car from Podbaba, to be built in 2025.
Today, Prague councilors approved a plan to build a new tram line from Kobylis to Bohnice. It should connect the metro station with the large housing estate and the future upper station of the cable car Podbaba – Troja – Bohnice.
Today, Dopravní podnik hl. m of Prague (DPP) in a press release. After commissioning, it will offer the inhabitants of Bohnice, for example, a direct tram connection in Palmovka to the Office of the Prague 8 district or to Libno. The councilors today commissioned the DPP to begin preparations for the construction. A designer should be selected at the beginning of the year.
The line will run from the Kobylisy metro station at the intersection of Klapkova, Pod Sídlištěm and Střelničná streets in the western direction of Pod Sídlištěm street, through Kobyliské náměstí, then Čimická and K Pazderkám streets, along the edge of Sídliště Bohnice to the southern tip of Lodžská street. According to preliminary plans, it should have 7 stops. Bohnice is one of the largest housing estates in Prague, where only buses run so far.

DPP estimates that the new line will cost 1.2 billion crowns, Prague wants to use European subsidies for the construction. “In the case of a smooth course of permitting procedures, we could start building at the earliest in 2025 and put it into operation in about six years, ie in about 2027,“Said Petr Witowski, Chairman of the Board of DPP.
Part of the Kobylisy – Bohnice tram line project will be the solution of the junction at the Kobylisy metro station so that the new line is connected in all directions of the existing tram lines, ie in the direction of Libno, Ďáblice, Holešovice and the Kobylisy depot, resp. in the following years to continue the tram line to Zdib. Furthermore, with the construction of the new Kobylisy – Bohnice DPP tram line as a separate investment project, the tram line in Klapkova Street, south of the intersection with Střelničná Street, will be reconstructed in parallel, where it will proceed according to a conceptual study prepared by IPR Prague.
