Prague – Prague Airport will lay off another 150 employees due to this year’s huge drop in traffic. It should be mainly an operational and administrative position, the server said today zdopravy.cz. The airport will thus follow up on the spring wave of redundancies, when 450 employees left the company. Before the crisis, the airport had about 2,900 employees.
The airport has been facing a large decrease in checked-in passengers since the spring. In October, about 115,000 people traveled through it, which is 93 percent less. This will also be reflected in the airport’s revenues, which must reduce the number of stocks. Moreover, with the current developments, no major improvement in the situation can be expected.
“Prague Airport is forced to re-reduce jobs by all efforts, gradually by the end of 2020 by approximately 150. This is an operational and administrative position,” said Prague Airport spokeswoman Kateřina Pavlíková.
The redundancies should concern positions for which it will not apply in the future. On the contrary, employees with unique qualifications and high expertise necessary for the operation of the airport should remain.
“At the same time, we must have the necessary capacities ready for a possible resumption of operations, which, according to experience from the spring of this year, may occur relatively quickly,” added Pavlíková. For some employees, therefore, they use part-time work or part-time employment, where employees stay at home for 60 percent of their wages.
Airports in crisis and other measures. From December, for example, it will reduce night traffic for passenger transport.
Already during the spring crisis, Prague Airport recorded a loss of passengers of more than 99 percent. During the summer, the number of passengers began to rise to 350,000 in August, but it was still well below last year’s almost two million.
