Strakonická will be extended by a lane for buses. Scheiherr: It’s a win for cars too
“As part of this amendment, the road will be extended by one full-fledged lane with the aim of giving preference to public transport buses and IRS units,” said the Prague Roads Administration. A tender for a construction company is currently underway; according to TSK head Jozef Sinčák, preparatory work could begin this year.
The new lane built for public transport buses will be 2,179 kilometers long and, according to the ROPID organization, it will be the longest “bus lane” in Prague. It is intended to speed up the passage of buses along Strakonická, where they often stand in convoys. The total length of the bus lanes on Strakonická will be six kilometers. According to ROPID, the average bus interval in the morning rush hour is 51 seconds. “But it is also a win for drivers in cars, because the creation of a new full-fledged lane will increase the flow of traffic in others,” said Prague’s Deputy Minister of Transport Adam Scheinherr (Prague himself).
The construction completion date is scheduled for September 2023. However, the construction period may change in the tender, where it is one of the criteria. The estimated costs exceed 360 million crowns. The work will include, among other things, modifications to the slopes and construction of retaining walls.
