Veterans to start and up to Bratislava. Prague is waiting for motoring glory
The historic Aero HP 50 and Vauxhall 25 GY cars from the collection of the National Technical Museum (NTM) will take part in the commemorative race of historic Czechoslovak cars 1000 miles between Prague and Bratislava this year. The race, which renews the tradition of the car race from the 1930s, will start on August 13 from Opletalova Street in Prague.

One of about 110 cars that will take part in the race is the Czech car Aero 50 HP from 1938. The National Technical Museum has three cars of this type in its collection. “One of them was used by the Benešs during the war in England, it is in a permanent exhibition. And then we also have a two-seater roadster, with which (participants) will go to Bratislava,” said the curator of the museum’s car collection Petr Kožíšek. The car of the Prague company Aero reached a speed of up to 125 km / h.
The second car in the museum’s collections is the Vauxhall 25 GY, which was manufactured by the British car manufacturer Vauxhall Motors from 1935 to 1940. The car, which was modified for right-hand traffic, has been part of the NTM collection since 1989.

“These are attractive cars, but they are not the biggest pearls of our collections, because we would not dare to risk that in respect and awareness,” said Kožíšek. Cars from the NTM exhibition take part in the race regularly. Last year, in addition to the Aero HP 50, the museum’s crew also rode in a Jawa Minor car.
The race of historic cars manufactured before the Second World War will start on Thursday 13 August in the morning in front of the Autoklub ČR building in Prague’s Opletalova Street. The cars will return in front of the NTM building on the afternoon of August 15. All cars that take part in the race will be able to see Opletalova Street on August 12 during the check-in.

“It’s actually a car show until the evening. A period band will play and it will be possible to dance among the parked cars, everything is possible,” said Miroslav Krejsa, the race director, who also took part in the race in the 1970s. In addition to participants from the Czech Republic, the organizers also expect crews from Slovakia, Germany and the Netherlands.
The retro ride organized by the Veteran Car Club Prague has been renewing the tradition of the famous car race from the 1930s every year since 2015. The high-speed touring car race took place on the most important domestic road route Prague – Bratislava – Prague and the participants completed it twice, for a total of almost 1,600 kilometers. The organizers of the First Republic race, which was restored briefly in the 1970s and then in 2015, were originally inspired by Italian races.
