This is photographic Prague. The winners of the competition showed the beauties and dark corners of the metropolis
Prague photographers have been meeting at the Prague Photography Competition since 1996. This year’s 24th edition traditionally shows the beauties of the capital and its most shady aspects. You can see the winning and many other films at the exhibition of the same name, which is open until 10 August at the Old Town Hall. You can also see the winners in the gallery next to this article.
The Prague Photographic Competition follows the legacy of the great Czech photographer of Prague, Josef Sudek. 96 photographers entered the 24th year and sent 1,089 images. It competed in four traditional categories – The Beauty of Prague and its Transformations, People in Prague, Problems of Prague and The Chronicle of the Capital. In addition, so-called variable categories (changing every year) with the topics of Today’s Liben and Prague with Humor were announced this year.
The pictures were evaluated by a nine-member jury headed by photographer Dana Kyndrová. The most important award of the competition, ie the Mayor of Prague Award, was won by Martin Schubert for the film New Dormitory.
“The exhibition at the Old Town Hall presenting the winning and jury-selected images of the 24th year of the competition from 75 authors is a contribution to the visual history of the city. The exhibition can be viewed until August 10.
