By the end of August, Prague Airport will move part of the check – in from the first terminal to the second due to the reconstruction of technology Business
Prague Airport informed about it on Wednesday. Thus, the division of terminals into flights into the Schengen area from the second terminal and outside the Schengen area from terminal 1 will cease to apply.
The airport handled a record 17.8 million passengers last year, bringing it to the limit of its maximum capacity. Therefore, several construction projects are being worked on, which should at least partially increase the capacity. “One of the most important projects in this regard is the reconstruction of the baggage sorting plant, which has been continuing at the airport for the second year in a row and will temporarily require operating restrictions this year. however, the reconstruction will be a more modern and even safer check-in area for registered luggage, which passengers will appreciate in the future, “said Václav Řehoř, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Prague Airport.
The transfer will concern the check-in counters of 22 selected carriers. A specially marked RED ZONE will be reserved for them on the second terminal. However, boarding and departure itself will be as standard at the first terminal as before. The change only applies to those who have to leave Prague with an airline whose change process is changing, they have a large baggage to check in or they need to get their boarding pass, so they are no longer checked in online. After check-in, these passengers will return to the first terminal, where they will pass a passport and then security check before departure. Along with check-in, the carriers’ offices will also be temporarily moved to the hall of the second terminal.
Due to the changes, the airport has launched an information campaign, which will last until the end of August. The carrier should also provide information. Navigation signs will be placed along the entire route between the terminals, which should take about ten minutes. Řehoř stated that in addition to carriers, the airport also informed travel agencies, tourism organizations, hotels, taxi and parking operators and other business partners.
In addition to the reconstruction of the baggage sorting center, the airport is preparing several other construction modifications. In addition to smaller projects that should gradually speed up the handling of passengers and aircraft, the airport is also preparing large-scale constructions, such as the expansion of the second terminal by 2028 or the construction of parallel runways starting in 2025.
