Prague has approved an accommodation fee of 21 crowns per night, it will also apply to Airbnb
From January, accommodation facilities in the capital will charge a stay of CZK 21 per person per day. Airbnb services will also be subject to it. It is the sum of the maximum rates of the recreation and spa fee.
The government has decided to merge two fees from the new year into one. Thanks to this, Prague can expect a revenue of almost 370 million crowns, ie about 14 percent higher than before. The information follows from the explanatory memoranda to the amendment to the decree, which was approved by the Prague representatives.
According to the new law, the fee can be a maximum of 21 crowns per person per day from January, and from 2021 municipalities will be able to collect up to 50 crowns according to their decision. According to the mayor’s deputy Petr Vyhnánek (Prague Sobě), the proposal to increase the fee to the deputies will be submitted again in a year, because the current fee is “mixed low”, he said.
The fee applies to any short stay, regardless of location and purpose. It is not paid for the first day of stay and only if the accommodation does not exceed 60 consecutive days.
People over the age of 70 and people accommodated in connection with seasonal work are exempt from payments. In addition to the law, Prague has exempted groups of children and youth in dormitories from children’s and youth hostels if the price for accommodation does not reach three times the fee per person per day.
The administration of the fee will be the responsibility of the city districts, with the excuse of one- to five-star hotels, which will be managed by the capital.
So far, he has paid a maximum recreational or spa fee of 15 crowns per person per day and a fee for accommodation capacity of six crowns per bed per day. Last year, Prague raised approximately 324 million crowns.
