Tram across Sherwood? Prague 1 intends to lead the dormitories through the park in front of the main railway station
In the future, trams will be built directly in front of the Prague Main Railway Station. The councilor of Prague 1 approved the proposal for a new tram route, which is to lead directly through Vrchlického sady, also known as Sherwood. It is not yet clear when the dormitories will be laid, as the Prague City Hall has yet to approve changes to the zoning plan.
The new route was prepared by the Institute of Planning and Development of Prague (IPR) in agreement with conservationists. “I consider the tram to be an urban element. I believe that we will finally be able to revitalize the forecourt of the main railway station and the entire Vrchlický sady park, which forms another entrance gate to the capital city of Prague, “said Petr Hejma (STAN), its deputy mayor for territorial development, on the Facebook profile of Prague 1.
The proposed line should lead from the National Museum building, where it will be disconnected from the newly planned line. According to the plan, it will lead from Vinohradská Street to Wenceslas Square. Subsequently, it will continue through Vrchlického sady and after the stop at the main railway station it will head to Opletalova, where it will connect to the existing line at the crossroads.
“Thanks to this new line, the accessibility of public transport in the center of Prague will improve and it will significantly help tram-wide operation throughout Prague. The track will also help Vrchlický sady itself, because thanks to it, their current condition will improve, “said transport councilor David Skala.
