The metropolis urgently needs green roofs, say the architects
The authors assume that wood without surface treatment in a natural shade will eventually acquire a natural gray patina. “The legibility of the layout of individual classrooms is marked in the facade by the orientation of the wooden cladding. The facade is thus emotionally divided into individual boxes with an equally strong lintel, parapet and side, ”the project description continues. “Playful façade” is intended to refer to an object intended for children.
BMX starting ramp
Ondřej Tuček helped the Bohnice track for bicross, which is one of the cycling disciplines at the Olympic Games, to meet the standards of the international federation UCI. He created a new starting ramp with a five-meter starting height. In addition, under the sloping roof there are facilities for athletes – locker rooms, toilets, warehouses, a cafeteria and a clubhouse.

“The experimental music and dance hall and dance rehearsal room are cast in exposed concrete. Reinforced concrete buildings are ‘dressed’ in a soft façade, which is protected from freezing or overheating. The façade also absorbs the residual noise escaping from the hall and reduces the acoustic load of the residential courtyard, ”says the description. Thanks to the pattern, which is based on upholstered furniture, the halls resemble two large sofas.

The architects from IO Studio wanted to follow this link. With the completion of the atrium social building completed in 2015, CULS students gained access to the northern part of the plot, which now serves as a leisure oasis, where they can freely spend time between previous individual lecture blocks. The space is dominated by a gazebo standing on the site of the original mechanical air conditioning system, which the architects “wrapped” with a sound filter due to noise.
Revitalization of the settlement Budánka – Colonial
At the beginning of the 19th century, the workers’ settlement Buďánka with about twenty houses was established above the Motolský brook, but over time it was swallowed up by urban development. The Communists then decided to demolish to make room for prefabricated houses. In 1991, Buďánka was declared a monument zone, but the locality continued to fall into disrepair. In 2006, people from the area founded a civic association, which manages to start steps towards rescue.

On the basis of this initiative, a competition was created for the reconstruction of the colonial goods trade, which was to become the center of the entire locality. The colonial was renovated in 2016. Architects working under the Lennox brand also presented the “Budánek Revitalization Manual” on that occasion. There is a café on the ground floor of the renovated house. The upper space serves as an art workshop, meeting room or space for yoga lessons.
