A double fear of Prague 6. Czech Television has declared a state of climate threat and traffic emergency – ČT24
As part of the fight against climate change, the sixth district wants to install charging stations for electric cars and expand the range of drinking fountains and fog lights. Plastic cups, crockery and cutlery should disappear from farmers’ markets, and the town hall will make the provision of subsidies conditional on the non-use of disposable plastics.
“We do not want it to be a fashionable hurricane campaign, so we will focus on practically proven measures that will immediately improve the lives of citizens and the long-term negative effects of local government activities on the environment,” said Oldřich Kužílek (STAN).
The proposal for an emergency climate report supports representatives, regardless of party affiliation, and the city district builds on its longer-term efforts. Already last year, she surveyed places with a lack of greenery, the greatest feeling of heat or poor water infiltration among the inhabitants, and based on them, she proposed revitalization.
At the same time, it is not the only part of the city that has embarked on the fight against climate change. Already in May, Prague 7 declared a state of emergency, and City Hall Councilor Petr Hlubuček (STAN) plans to submit a proposal to declare a climate emergency in Prague at the June metropolitan council.
Island with limited throughput
In addition, the announced environmental measures in Prague 6 complement the current steps against motoring. As part of a state of traffic emergency, the city district wants to run paid parking zones throughout its territory. According to the mayor, Ondřej Kolář (TOP 09), Prague 6 has become a large car park due to the inactivity of the capital.
By the end of the year, the town hall wants to introduce light barriers on the main feeders – Karlovarská and Podbabská streets. These barriers will let the vehicles of the inhabitants of Prague 6 into the lanes for buses.
“In order to protect the inhabitants of Prague 6, we are forced to start operating as a kind of island with limited throughput. This will undoubtedly make life uncomfortable for many people, but it is a matter of completing the keywords and strategic constructions of the municipality, which must already take place, “said Jiří Lála (ODS), the deputy mayor for transport.
I do not agree with the benefit of the residents of Prague 6 with the municipality, according to the city management, this will only make the situation worse. “I think that would lead to a traffic collapse, because long columns would form there. We are dealing with the traffic situation in the city district, “Deputy Mayor Scheinherr (Prague himself).
The measures called for by Prague 6 also include the construction of the Dědina and Suchdol tram lines, including adjoining car parks and the Strahov tram line and the Troja, Bohnice, Kobylisy branches, the revitalization of Vítězné náměstí or the application of pressure on Václav Havel Airport. Prague 6 also calls for the speedy completion of the external and internal ring road.
The city council will present its requirements in mid-July. “Improvements in the promise phase by the capital must be immediate. If the traffic emergency continues, these measures will be put in place. This means one-way direction, the preferences of the inhabitants of Prague 6. These are things that we can achieve and that we can do to a large extent ourselves, “stressed the Deputy Mayor of Prague 6, Jakub Stárek (ODS).
