Čižinsky: Fun helps promote
Čižinsky is happy for the joke. “It’s Facebook and it’s for people to have fun. Fun helps us promote it, so I’m happy for that,” he told Novinkám.
The Prague 7 district declared a state of climate emergency on Wednesday. The town hall decided, for example, to stop using single-use plastics. The office should also change the way it manages waste, plant new trees in the streets or buy ecological cars. At the same time, development projects will require the use of so-called green roofs and will change water management.
“We insist that we can never go wrong in being more environmentally responsible. We consider this an important signal not only for us as an office, but also as an appeal to the people,” added Čižinský. According to him, they should, for example, travel around the city more by public transport or by bicycle. Čižinský himself moves around Prague only by bicycle, and Prague 7 has also set up special lanes for cyclists on the main road, which are, of course, criticized by drivers.
The proposal to declare a climate emergency is also being prepared by Petr Hlubuček, Prague’s deputy for the environment for the Mayor.
“We want to take the necessary steps that will lead to the improvement of the state of the environment and the protection of our landscape. Economic factors have played a primary role in politics so far. In my opinion, today, in a time of economic prosperity, is an opportune moment for the ecological consequences of political decisions to be taken into account,” said Hlubuček, adding that he would like Prague to be an example for other cities in the country.
A state of climate emergency was declared at the beginning of May by the regional parliaments in Scotland and Wales, in Britain individual cities, such as London or Bristol, and other local councils join in.

The students appeal to the governments of the given countries to start solving the problems of climate change. Student strikes were started last year by 15-year-old Swedish student Greta Thunberg.
