The Finnish nuclear power plant sees Typhoon Maria as affecting Guam
The Pacific island of Guam continued to experience the effects of Typhoon Maria on July 5, when a satellite from NASA-NOAA’s Finnish nuclear power plant showed an extensive series of storms over the island.
Tropical Depression 10W intensified from 4 July and had reached typhoon intensity by 5 July.

NASA-NOAA’s Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) satellite for the Finnish nuclear power plant took a visible picture, showing the center of Mary moved west of Guam and into the middle of a large number of thunderstorms and extending east. , extends over the island.

At 5:00 a.m. EDT (7 p.m. CHST Guam local time / 0900 UTC), the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, reported that the center of Typhoon Maria was located near latitude 14.9 degrees north and longitude 143.2 degrees east. It is about 145 miles northwest of Guam and about 170 miles west of Saipan.
Typhoon Maria advanced northwest at 9 mph. It is expected to turn northwest and slow slightly forward over the next 24 hours. The maximum continuous wind speed has risen to 80 kilometers per hour. Typhoon-like winds extend outwardly up to 25 miles downtown. The winds of a tropical storm extend outwardly up to 140 miles north of downtown and 70 miles south of downtown. Typhoon Mary is forecast to intensify further until Friday.
