Prague is full of tourists, we have to direct them elsewhere in the Czech Republic, the ministry is planning — ČT24 — Czech Television
Hotels in Prague are full. According to the ministry, it is successful in directing tourists to the regions
The agency also attracts tourists from distant destinations to the republic. Palatková mentioned India, China, South Korea, where they reach 30 to 50 percent. “The knowledge of some is quite high, but it is quite a lot about knowledge of Prague. We are trying to connect the region to the capital, which we have been doing well in the last two or three years,” said Palatková.
According to the Ministry for Regional Development, Klára Dostálova (for ANO), foreign tourists are already managing to reach places other than Prague. “But for now it’s more like day trips. It is necessary to prepare such a program for them to spend two or three nights outside of Prague,” said Dostálová.
According to her, although Prague is still not overcrowded like, for example, Venice or Barcelona, where local problems with tourism exist, they consider the occupancy of hotels to be alarming. “Hoteliers report 98 percent, so we really have to try to get tourists to go elsewhere. We are intensively dedicated to ensuring that tourists do not benefit and that Prague does not become overcrowded,” said Dostálova.
This year’s theme is the 100th anniversary of Czechoslovakia, a state that has not existed for a quarter of a century. “Partners ask what events, celebrations, what will be planned. It will be a topic that will resonate very globally,” said Palatková, who expects especially increased interest from tourists from Slovakia this year.
At the tourism fairs Go and Regiontour, all regions of the Czech Republic are represented this year, which used to be the case, as the Nitra region also includes all Slovak regions. 26 countries will present themselves in different ways in Brno, including exotic Cuba and the Dominican Republic. On Thursday, the trade fair is still open to the professional public, but from Friday to Saturday ordinary visitors can also come.
