RegioJet is heading for the German market
The reason for the transfer of a large part of RegioJet’s fleet is the aggressive pricing strategy used by the competing Flixbus in the Czech Republic. “He came to destroy us. This is a national transfer to Germany, but I cannot specify the exact number of buses yet, “said Jančura. The currently operating domestic section from Dresden to Berlin, which is part of the international service, is said to make RegioJet the third largest bus operator on the German market.
“If we had to continue to optimize existing domestic lines and we stopped building an hourly rate (when buses run every hour, editor’s note), it would mean that every bus can go abroad. Where Flixbus generates huge profits, thanks to the elimination of competition, “said the head of the company. While Flixbus in the Czech Republic runs according to Jančura for half the price than it should, RegioJet will run in Germany for a price slightly higher. “Nevertheless, it will be significantly lower than the price of Flixbus,” Jančura added.
Today, Flixbus dominates the local market with a share of over ninety percent. Part of the expansion of the Czech carrier in Germany is the opening of a sales point at the central bus station in Berlin, which will take place within four months at the latest. “Preparations are in the final phase, it will also be possible to buy train tickets,” said RegioJet spokesman Aleš Ondrůj.
However, the director of Flixbus for the Czechia and Slovakia, Pavel Prouza, has previously objected to similar criticism. “We definitely don’t want to destroy anyone. RegioJet should not be surprised that another company wants to start a business in the market. We do not come up with what is already on the market to erase someone from the map, on the contrary, we want to bring welcome competition to the market, “he said in an interview with the server.
