Prague would then be significantly larger. The new region would “engulf” two entire districts with a number of cities. The metropolis would grow by three hundred thousand inhabitants.
The mayor of Prague would then invite the mayor for next autumn after the election, the office only two years, as well as the councilors and deputies. The others would have emerged from the regional elections in 2020. Prague would be one constituency, as would the other thirteen regions. In the future, it will therefore not be possible to divide Prague into more districts, as has happened in the past. Three years ago, both the House and the government dealt with this, but in the end there was no change.
How Prague grows
A similar change took place in Slovakia. The governors and deputies of the regional self-government will remain in office for an extraordinary five years instead of the usual four years. Slovaks voted in the recent regional elections.
“It’s a missed chance, it probably won’t be in a year,” says the deputy mayor and the newly elected member of parliament. Petr Dolínek (CSSD). According to him, it would also suit Prague City Halls, which are calling for a change of competencies between the city and municipalities. This was shown, for example, in the South Town, when there was a somewhat curious debate about secession from Prague.
The municipality would manage things like a region, the city districts would get more money, but again it would have to participate in paying for public transport or the city police.
“A single building office could also be set up with branches in the city districts in order to avoid divergent interpretations of the regulations. It would also be easier to handle traffic offenses, ”says Dolínek. According to him, the old ties were broken. Today, it is not clear who is defending the interests of the Prague City Council, and some mayors – Prague councilors – have become accustomed to going to the city hall mainly for money for their city district.
There is not yet a force in the Prague City Council that can change the law to enforce it.
