Marble Slivenec has new owners. They want to stabilize the famous quarry
Problems with debt repayment pushed Mramor Slivenec to a new shareholder. The name of billionaire Pavel Tykač was often used in connection with the stone miner, but he denies the engagement.
The oldest quarry in the Czech Republic has new owners. The company Mramor Slivenec quarrying the stone on the southern edge of Prague passed into the hands of the entrepreneur Martin Sýkora. He came to the company based in Dobřichovice near Prague with the help of receivables worth tens of millions of crowns. Mramor Slivenec did not repay the loan and Sýkora turned the debt into a business share.
“We mainly need to stabilize the company and return to normal operations. And also to return the Sliven marble back to Prague, “Sýkora told the E15 daily, adding that he had recently won the top competition in the metropolis. An unspecified Czech bank will help revive the company.
It is not clear which owner brought the company into trouble. Mramor Slivenec had anonymous bearer shares until last November. Until 2007, the company controlled Charlton, and in 2010 it had a minority stake in Sliven. One of the richest Czechs, Pavel Tykač, is connected with Charlton.

“Pavel Tykač was one of Charlton’s minority beneficiaries for a limited time, but only at a time when Mramor Slivenec no longer controlled the company,” said billionaire spokesman Jan Chudomel. But the connection to Tykač exists through the last representative of Sliven’s Marble. Until mid-January, the Chairman of the Board of Directors was Jan Slosiarik, who worked at Tykačov Motoinvest as well as the billion-dollar trader of the EC Group.
More is already known about the new owner. Businessman Martin Sýkora also has a short flirtation with politics when he made Deputy Vít Bárta at the Ministry of Transport. Lukáš Hampl, the new director of Marble, also made the same contribution. He worked at the Ministry of Transport for three years. He ended the arrival of former Minister Antonín Prachar (YES) at the beginning of 2014. He was also on the supervisory boards of ČEZ and České dráhy.
Marble from Sliven adorns, among other things, the seat of the Chamber of Deputies, the National Museum and the Schwarzenberg Palace. The history dates back to the 13th century, when the Order of the Red Star Crusaders began to be mined there.
