Salzburg are expecting Graz in the ÖFB Cup quarter-finals
In the first competitive game of 2023, things are going full steam ahead: FC Red Bull Salzburg are expecting SK Sturm Graz – the Red Bulls’ closest pursuer in the Bundesliga – to play in the ÖFB Cup quarter-finals on Friday, February 3. The kick-off in Wals-Siezenheim is at 8.45 p.m., there are still enough tickets available at the box office for last-minute visitors. Fans can look forward to two new LED video walls measuring around 93 square meters, twice the size of their predecessor. The installation turned out to be extremely challenging, after all, a “Vidiwall” weighs around 2.4 tons.
“It immediately goes from zero to one hundred, it’s all about being or not being,” says RB sports director Christoph Freund. Coach Matthias Jaissle is happy that his team is facing a big challenge: “The two best teams in Austria are playing against each other, we’re looking forward to it.” “Sturm has a clear handwriting,” knows the German coach in Salzburg’s service. “They will demand everything from us.”
Ousmane Diakite leaves Salzburg
There was a change shortly before the transfer ended: Ousmane Diakite is leaving Salzburg and signing with Bundesliga competitor TSV Hartberg. The defensive midfielder came to the city of Mozart from his home country of Mali in the summer of 2018. The 22-year-old made 19 appearances for FC Liefering, ten on loan for Altach (one goal each) and 16 for FC St. Gallen (two goals).
