Drag-queen workshop in Toulouse: should we be afraid of excesses?
Two drag-queen artists will host a reading for children this Saturday, February 4 at the MJC Roguet in Saint-Cyprien. Faced with attacks from the far right on social networks, the MJC is taking precautions.
This Saturday, February 4, on the occasion of the Fête de l’hiver, drag-queen artists Shanna Banana and Brandy Snap will lead a reading workshop for children at the MJC Roguet. An event that raises some concerns. “For several days, on Twitter, we have suffered attacks from Arthur Cottrel of the far-right Reconquest party. He demands the cancellation of the event, which raises fears of excesses, ”says Bertrand Boillot, director of the MJC Roguet.
Faced with this risk, the MJC, in consultation with the Department and the national police, worked on a security device. Filtering will take place at the entrance to the room and the gauge will be reduced to 200 places. “Priority will also be given to children accompanied by their parents, for whom the proposed activities are intended. »
Other past and ongoing controversies
As a reminder, a reading workshop led by these same artists was to be held at the José Cabanis media library on February 18. Under pressure from the far right, the town hall had finally reserved the event for a major audience.
