While we perceive this Tuesday, January 31, 2023 the beginnings of the work that will animate the rue de Metz for months, As part of the major redevelopment project for this structuring artery – scheduled to last two years -, another project also began a few days ago not far from there, Place Saint-Étienne, in Toulouse.
Two separate projects, but “carried out simultaneously”
At the foot of the cathedral, barriers have been installed, behind which cobblestones have been removed, and workers are busy dismantling networks. According to the town hall of Toulouse, despite the concordance of the timetable, these works are not directly linked to the at the big construction site which begins at rue de Metz – and will impact rue Boulbonne and rue Croix-Baragnon. “Even if they were carried out simultaneously, in order to minimize the inconvenience for traders and local residents”, these are in fact two separate projects.
At the same time, on the rue de Metz side, the first construction engines landed on Monday evening, but work had not yet started on Tuesday.
More than two months of work on Place Saint-Étienne
On the Place Saint-Étienne side, this involves “work to bring the gas network, which started in mid-January in the district, indicates the town hall. Contacted by Toulouse News, GRDF confirms: “This is a worksite annexed to that which is looming on Rue de Metz, where the pipe work must also be carried out”. “In order to avoid any cuts, we must divert a gas distribution station which will be impacted by the works on rue de Metz”, explains Laurent Ducommun, territorial director of GRDF for the Metropolis of Toulouse.
“We are taking advantage of this to renovate the gas network in Place Saint-Étienne, which was quite old, and the transformer with a network with better distribution capacity.
This site of the Place Saint-Étienne should last a little over two months, until end of March 2023.
