Toulouse. Plane tree felled in Papus: Toulouse Habitat explains
A week ago, the felling of a healthy century-old plane tree, alley from Île-de-France to Papus, caused a great stir among the inhabitants. This tree, which was part of a remarkable alley as Espace Boisé Classé in the former PLUi-H (cancelled in 2019), was sacrificed for a simple particular interest, namely, the creation of a car access for the benefit of the new owner of a house put up for sale by the social landlord Toulouse Métropole Habitat (TMH) (Editor’s note La Dépêche of January 28). As the plane tree is located in a private domain, this felling had been authorized by a vote of the general assembly of the Association Syndicale Libre des copropriétaires, at the request of the beneficiary of the work. As for TMH, designated by Benoît Cazals, president of the neighborhood committee, as the sponsor of this felling, he denies and specifies that “it is indeed a private owner who contacted a company and ordered the felling of the tree “. Toulouse Métropole Habitat, itself a member of the Association Syndicale Libre des copropriétaires, affirms “that it did not vote at the general meeting in favor of this request, unlike the other owners, but that the decision was taken by a majority of votes.”
TMH deplores this situation and would like to remind you that it has planted 68 trees in the Papus district alone and that a nursery project consisting of around a hundred species has been blocked for almost two years now by “this same neighborhood committee which nevertheless claims to be a fervent protector of the environment”.
