Toulouse. A decision of the Town Hall goes badly with the unions
After the controversy limited to a reading workshop by drag queens at the Toulouse media library, the town hall unions are asking the mayor for support.
A reading workshop for children by two drag queens planned for the José Cabanis media library on February 18 is still causing a stir. This would include acceptance and inclusion. But the meeting was in the sights of a far-right group, French Fury. Which lead to a wave of hatred.
Toulouse City Hall wished to take the party of appeasement by giving up organizing the reading workshop for children. The municipality recognizes that “this choice of programming – which did not give rise to any approval or endorsement from elected officials – may destabilize part of the public”.
The unions of the City of Toulouse regret the position of the mayor
In a press release, the unions of the municipality, Sud Collectivités Territoriales and CGT Mairie de Toulouse, point out that the mayor, Jean-Luc Moudenc, “hastened to reject the responsibility for this situation on his servicesasserting in the press that this programming had not given rise to “no visa or endorsement from elected officials”.
The unions note that the meeting “was nevertheless registered in the Manifesta, communication tool of the Library of Toulouse concerning its cultural activities and whose editorial is signed by the adviser delegated to the libraries. »
Municipal unions ask for support
The trade unions Sud Collectivités Territoriales and CGT Mairie de Toulouse condemn the restriction of the workshop to an adult public. They regret the mayor’s decision and the lack of support for his teams. As well, they ask the mayor for his support against the extreme right.
