On suspicion of attempted murder, a 19-year-old must answer before the Salzburg regional court on Wednesday. He is said to have tried to stab his half-brother in a dispute over a computer game console.
Who is allowed to use this console and when – according to the public prosecutor’s office, that was one of the triggers for the attempted murder. The accused local from the city of Salzburg and his half-brother are said to have had arguments more often.
Two reports on mental health
The last trigger was that the victim told the accused that he was becoming more and more like his father. According to the prosecution, he has multiple criminal records.
The 19-year-old then pushed a knife between the ribs of the other teenager. The half-brother survived this attack, but according to the public prosecutor’s office he could have died with less luck. At first it was said that the accused had mental problems. According to a second report, this has now been ruled out.
Up to 20 years imprisonment possible
At the age of 19, the accused is not considered an adult before the law, but a “young adult”. Therefore, although the penalty for attempted murder has been reduced, it is still up to 20 years in prison.
