Appeal to the citizens and politicians of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria
Appeal to citizens and politicians
on
Republic of North Macedonia and Republic of Bulgaria.
We, the undersigned – Petar Stoyanov, President of the Republic of Bulgaria (1997-2002) and the descendants of the families and families from Macedonia, declare that we are deeply disturbed by the tension that has arisen in both countries on the occasion of the commemoration of the anniversary of the birth of Gotse Delchev and we appeal to the citizens and politicians of both countries, as well as to their relatives and friends on both sides of the border, to prevent this tension from escalating at all costs.
Provoked clashes between citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria would be an unacceptable sacrilege to the memory of Gotse Delchev!
They will cast an ugly shadow not only on the relations between our closest countries, but also on the cause of those who died for the freedom of Macedonia from the Ottoman rule.
We must not allow separate groups of people in both countries, knowingly or unknowingly, to destroy the work of our forefathers!
We call on the politicians in Sofia and Skopje to cooperate with all their forces in preventing the language of hate, which is harmful to our two societies and to the future of our two countries.
