all the details of the event between avatars and digital masks
It will be possible to participate in the new Venice Carnival on Instagram, Roblox and Ready Player Me. The party in virtual reality aims to involve the new generations and bring them closer to tradition. But are we sure that the Metaverse is the right space to do it?

There will be masked avatars strolling the narrow streets of Venice this year. The Carnival invests in what, at the moment, is the lamest novelty in the tech world: ithe Metaverse. On the other hand, the origin of the party is metaphysics. At Carnival the earthly dimension splits and the door to the Underworld opens.
Now the Metaverse, despite the fact that it is proving to be a real Hell for its developers, becomes the new door to let in and attract the young generations from all over the world, as explained by the mayor of Venice Louis Brugnaro. And so since 4 to 21 Februaryalongside the traditional events of the city there will also be masquerade parties and shows dedicated to the Carnival in the Metaverse.
The event beyond Venice
Is called “Take your time for original signs” and it will be the first Carnival in the world also present on the Metaverse. It will be supervised by the Artistic Director and set designer of the Teatro La Fenice, Massimo Cecchetto. To look to the future, we are still well into the past, and in fact the theme for 2023 will be the Zodiac recreated in a contemporary key. “Future and past together, to explain to the whole world how Venice was born, to tell it through the stories that were, the places and the time. We think of real cultural itineraries to bring the new generations closer and tell them about the oldest city of the future”, explained Brugnaro.
How the carnival will work in the Metaverse
It will be possible to participate on Instagram, Roblox and Ready Player Me. Once inside, users will choose the masks to wear: Colombina, Pantalone, the Bauta, the Plague Doctor, or the Phoenix. All rethought in a digital key, and in fact the first presentations that were shown at the Procuratie Vecchie in Piazza San Marco, resemble video game gamer suits, with obvious references to tradition.
