A strong nauseating odor detected in Caen and its surroundings, do not panic
Many residents of the agglomeration of Caen had to hold their noses this Wednesday, February 1. In question, a foul odor in the ambient air. Similar to gas, it is however not dangerous, quite the contrary.
Contrary to what the Caen rapper Orelsan might think, it is not the smell of gasoline which floats in the air of Caen and its surroundings this Wednesday, February 1st. However, the day after a demonstration against the pension reform which mobilized more than 25,000 Caen residents according to the unions, that could have been the case.
But, no, the nauseous emanations detected by the nose of the inhabitants of the agglomeration of Caen-la-Mer appeared more to the smell of gas. The reality is different. A farmer is carrying out spreading work in his fields today. The Prefecture ensures that the product used is natural and not harmful to health.
Please do not contact emergency services
However, many Caennais, surprised by these smells, were worried. So much so that a number of them contacted the emergency services to report this situation, which they considered abnormal and potentially dangerous.
Faced with the congestion of the lines of the emergency services, the Prefecture had no other choice but to communicate to reassure the inhabitants. The Prefect of Calvados thus asks not to contact the firefighters, police and gendarmes about this smell which should dissipate as the day progresses.
