Toulouse. New 5G services for the Metropolis –
Toulouse Métropole has just won the HI5 call for European projects to set up a dedicated shared and multi-service 5G mobile connectivity infrastructure for the metropolis.
It is thanks to the “Vol de Nuit” experiment carried out in Montaudran, on the compatibility of different modes of data transmission such as fiber optics, 4G/5G or even the very high speed wireless link, that it has could show his expertise.
Toulouse Métropole will now launch a digital development of the metropolitan territory which will protect local companies from the explosion of operating costs linked to these new needs.
It will rely on granular infrastructures of fiber, routers and technical rooms to achieve a complete digital infrastructure. This will ultimately make it possible to develop sovereign and independent 5G communication to offer new uses and develop the connected and sustainable metropolis of tomorrow.
This new connectivity will concretely allow better communications during major events such as Rio Loco, the 2023 Rugby World Cup, in particular for security, emergency services or, in a more entertaining way, the capture and broadcast of live images. . The community will be able to analyze and solve problems related to mobility in the city, manage road interventions and digital and electrical networks. New services could be taken into account for public lighting.
This will also impact the cultural and educational fields with the possibility of creating interactive paths. This will also make it possible to develop the transport of tomorrow such as autonomous shuttles, drones, etc.
Tisséo will also be able to use it for video protection data on board metro lines. The possibilities of use are very numerous and allow real progress on a daily basis for the services of the Metropolis and its partners as well as for the inhabitants.
With this European financial aid of 2.8 M€, Toulouse Métropole, pilot of the project, invests nearly 4 M€ for its implementation and Alsatis, telecom operator, nearly 500,000 euros.
