SM Caen. A distressing Stade Malherbe relapses violently in Annecy

We can imagine them in favor of raising the age of their own retirement, the footballers of Malherbe Caen Stadium seemed to be associated with the big day of strike launched on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. The Malherbistes did not quite exercise their profession on the lawn – very degraded – of Annecy and logically lost 2-0. From a distressing mediocrity on the technical level, to the point of displaying only 63% of successful passes, they also displayed a disconcerting lack of intelligence in a clearly obsolete 5-3-2 system.
Essende miss the few chances
Caen did all the wrong things except for a rather dynamic start. The weakness of Essende in the conclusion of his two clear chances, face to face with the goalkeeper in the first half (25′), then at the (non) reception of a cross from Abdi in the second half (77 ′), did not create the hold-up that a simple draw would have constituted.
The former Pau only confirmed his sad momentum when Stéphane Moulin had tried to revive him, like a ghostly Diani. The midfielder lost more balls than he passed in the first half. He was replaced by Daubin at the break, when Mendy gave way to Kyeremeh.
A defense in the woods
SM Caen had been bad in the first half, it was sometimes disastrous after returning from the locker room. Annecy, which had gained momentum during the first 45 minutes, materialized its surplus of enthusiasm, ideas and even talent, if indeed we could have the audacity to place this word at the end of such a game.
Absolutely alone at the reception of a cross from Baldé, at the end of a superb collective movement, Billemaz opened the scoring in the middle of the second half (1-0, 67′). Five defenders, including Vandermersch still elusive placement, were not enough to mark it.
The worried way
When Malherbe slightly tried to raise the whisper, a long clearance from Bastian found Testud, who then eliminated Mandréa to make the break (2-0, 80′). Thomas, who had been fortunate enough not to be punished by Sahi after a failed check a little earlier (75′), was absent.
There was nothing left of the alluring team showing at Sochaux and, to a lesser extent, a week later against Laval. The Caennais were sad with a distressing, on the basis of long balloons seeming to exempt them from any reflection and a level of individual performance unworthy of Stade Malherbe and even more of its ambitions. Eighth in Ligue 2, Caen relapsed violently. And more than the result, it’s the way that worries.
