School, students fleeing Cassini. Parents: “The best scientist in Genoa wears out our children”
Genoa – It has stood out in the rankings for years of the Eduscope from the Lambs Foundation as the best scientific high school in the city and, also in the indicator Iris of theUniversity of Genoa which measures the performance of freshmen.
And the Cassini high school Of Genoese, where, however, in recent weeks, the parents are in turmoil after the open letter from the mother of a former studentrecently moved on to another city high school, lo scientific Columbusafter this he had developed a total refusal of study and, even, of food.
The facts date back to Christmas Eve when the other families met, the December 23rdto compare with each other. We publish anonymously the letter written by the boy’s mother to Vice President Anna Laura Burlando: had also been shared with the parents of classmates.
Also following a very recent second transfer from the same class – the testimony below – the school, led in the regency by the manager of the Foce complex, Simona Di Pasqua, does not comment on the case. And she indeed points out, through a teacher who requests anonymity, that “transfers from the first, physiological because they are kids who understand they have the wrong address and change the type of education, have decreased”.
The school then makes it known that it has activated various remedial courses, moments of socialization, strengthened the psychological desk. In fact, the mother of the boy transferred before Christmas speaks of an unease that has even affected the family.
And the father of the boy who left the institute a few days ago, always in the direction of Convitto Colombo, writes: “The deep sufferingthe one that grips you stomach, which robs you of sleep, was too deep to continue. Andrea (invented name) has manifested those again symptoms (stomach ache, nausea, headache) that last year had led him to to interrupt there frequency school. The risk of a relapse it got too strong. And the more time passes the stronger the risk becomes disaffection at the schoolnot to develop an effective study method that presupposes a possible future academic training”.
But, here is the text of the open letter sent to the Cassini management.
“Dear Professor, I follow up on our conversation today, which was followed by the authorization for the transfer of my son from your institution to Convitto Colombo. I want to write the reasons that led us to this chosen offer, because I think it is important that the school knows them and can take note of them. My son is a boy fickle in study, sometimes lazy, but very intelligent and brilliant if passionate about the subject. In previous years with a few slips all in all it went pretty well. Especially last year, where he didn’t have any formative debits and came out of the third with one discreet supports.
This year, on the other hand, started off very badly. We arrive on the threshold of the Christmas holidays with 6 insufficient subjectsbut above all with an immense unease for his part, which, I won’t deny, yes poured into all of our family health. Beyond the personal reasons that have contributed to this, I would like to underline some “responsibility” of some members of the teaching staff.
The professor of Physics and Mathematics goes ahead with the program despite the fact that there are many people behind and many serious shortcomings. He is unable to properly explain the various topics of physics and mathematics, abyss compared to alllast year’s teacher, who was certainly not magnanimous with grades. Mom he knew how to excite and recognize the uniqueness of individual pupils.
This professor it is totally inadequate from an educational point of view, it is glacial, not interested in helping those in difficulty, rather. The Science and Chemistry professor has the same attitude: checks where 85% of the class is insufficient or seriously insufficient, I think they are a problem that the teacher must solve rather than the pupils.
The professor of Latin (which they have from the first) every time I go on an interview complain about the whole class, he talks about it like kids without a study method….But who is it that has to teach them the study method? I don’t believe families. When my son was sent back to second grade Latin, I tutored him all summer.
I patiently taught him how to translate and he learned. I was lucky enough to get one to one, but I’m not a teacher anyway, I’m a manager. I’ll stop here, also because I really have nothing to say about the other teachers, except that the teacher of Italian it was a breath of freshnessthat the teacher of Art he always has theirs in front of him Welfaretogether with the professor of Physical education please give them our thanks, it can’t be easy to be like this with colleagues like that.
My son had chosen Cassini, he liked being able to study computer science, he really enjoyed the open day. He lasted almost 4 years, but now he’s tight. He’s lost weight, he’s sick, he has the lump going into school every morning. Has had a panic attack, no longer opens a book. We were very concerned and decided together with him to move him to Colombo. From tomorrow she will no longer come: when she received the news of the transfer, her face changed: she smiles, embraces us, sings… But her 15 companions remain there for whom I am gravely worried.
I will share these observations with the parents of the remaining pupils, I hope that they too, as we have often confronted each other, will write to you honestly and transparently. Cassini will no longer be a school I will recommendCassini will also be among the top list of scientific high schools in Italy, but I sincerely invite you to consider the classification of the discomfort that Cassini creates for its students.
It’s not a pretty record, it’s not official, but you and we know what it is. This is not school, this is not education, this is not the transmission of knowledge, nor emotional intelligence. Thank you for listening, greetings and thanks to you, vice president, for having listened to me in person”.
