three new developments for Côte Pavée and Guilheméry
Three new developments await the Côte Pavée and Guilheméry districts in Toulouse. Carried out as part of the citizen consultation “My ideas for my neighborhood”, they notably designate the installation of furniture in the Port Saint-Sauveur or the planting of trees on the Hers greenway.
The operation “My ideas for my neighborhood” will bring its share of changes to Toulouse. During this citizen consultation, Toulouse residents were called upon to make proposals to improve their living environment. In all, 1600 ideas were submitted. Ideas then subjected to performance studies and a vote of the people. Ultimately, 83 projects were selected.
Among these winning proposals, three relate to district 4.3 from Toulouse, namely Côte Pavée and Guilheméry, but also Bonhoure, Château de l’Hers and Limayrac. Two are in the “nature in the city” category and the third in the “eco-mobility” category. The town hall of Toulouse will mobilize a budget of 375,500 euros for these three projects. Here’s what these layouts are suitable for.
Make Port Saint-Sauveur in Côte Pavée more user-friendly
The first winning idea won 103 votes. This proposes the development of the banks of the Canal du Midi, more specifically that of the Port Saint-Sauveur. The resident who submitted this project asks remove parking spaces and turn them into lawns and green spaces. The town hall of Toulouse indicates that it is “possible to improve pedestrian crossings between the foot of the facade and the banks, to prohibit the parking of vehicles and to create a dedicated pedestrian space for the right bank quay”.
On the other hand, the revegetation of the Saint-Sauveur port cannot be done because “the spirit of the port and the quay must prevail”. As part of this project, the City is therefore only considering the installation of large tables and seating furniture “which could be associated with shade structures to provide shade during the hottest hours”. “This development will promote new uses that are both peaceful and user-friendly”, estimates the municipality, which will invest 170,000 euros to achieve it.
Advantage of trees along the Hers greenway
If the revegetation of the port Saint-Sauveur is impossible, this is not the case of that of the greenway of the Hers. The second idea provides for the planting of trees on part of this axis. “The Hers greenway which runs along the ring road could be much more pleasant for walking and playing sports if there were more trees between the ring road and this one. By adding trees, some of which are evergreen, this green area would be better isolated from traffic on the ring road,” says the project leader.
As the municipality points out, planting trees along the greenway is “feasible”. At least from Avenue Jean Chaubet to Avenue de Castres. “The number of trees likely to be planted will depend on the presence of networks on this geographical enterprise in Toulouse (public lighting network and strategic network of wastewater and rainwater)”, announces the town hall. It would normally be possible to plant a hundred on this portion of the greenway for a budget of 199,500 euros.
Installation of bicycle racks in these areas of Toulouse
The third and last proposal of this call for ideas collected 75 votes in total and benefited from a budget of 6,000 euros. She suggests the installation of “bicycle racks in front of all shops and green areas”. Indeed, the native of Toulouse behind this project details: “Today, not only is it difficult to cycle in the neighborhoods of Toulouse (roads in poor condition, dangerous paths) but in addition it is still often difficult to attach his bicycle in front of a business or in front of a green space”.
He cites in particular difficulties on the road to Agde, avenue Jean Chaubet, near the green zone of Argoulets, at the level of the micro-forest of the Giants or even above the Cosec (evolving sports complex covered) of Rangueil. For the City, this idea is also “feasible”. “You can add racks,” she says. But the town hall of Toulouse does not specify where they could precisely settle within the district. In its technical opinion, it does indicate that these locations are “to be defined”.
