Senecura nursing home: the number of inhabitants has been greatly reduced – salzburg.ORF.at
timeline
Calm seems to be returning to the scandal-ridden Senecura nursing home in Salzburg-Lehen. As announced, the number of residents in the country was significantly reduced, from almost 70 to currently 47. The newly appointed management of the home is doing a good job, they say.
The strict controls of the home supervisor would continue until further notice. According to the office of the responsible deputy governor, Martina Berthold (Greens), after the Ombudsman’s Office had shown massive grievances in 2022, the number of residents is now even lower than desired.
A total of 47 senior citizens currently live in the house in Lehen. 21 previous residents have moved – two of them in private retirement homes, the rest in public facilities in the city.
Unannounced reviews remain
In order to ensure the quality of care in the house in Lehen, the strict controls of the home supervision remain in place – every two weeks it is checked that the home has not been terminated. The final report by Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP) called for an internal audit and is still pending. When it WILL be available is not known.
Meanwhile, criminal investigations are ongoing against 16 managers of the nursing home on suspicion of torturing and neglecting defenseless people and causing bodily harm. There is no investigation against politicians. As a result of the care scandal, Heinrich Schellhorn (Greens), who was responsible for the department at the time, resigned.
