Man in Salzburg is said to have bought two flower boxes before disappearing
The investigations have also revealed that the missing man bought two plastic balcony boxes before he disappeared on January 2nd. However, the anthracite-colored boxes, each around one meter long, have not been found to date.
Anyone who can provide information on this can contact the Salzburg State Criminal Police Office (telephone 05913350-3333) or any police station, even anonymously. The police and the public prosecutor’s office are still covered with information – also because there are indications that several perpetrators were involved in the suspected crime. Investigators are currently assuming that a criminal offense occurred in the course of a car sale. To date, a body has not been found.
Alleged victim wanted to sell car before disappearing
Investigations started after the alleged victim was reported missing by a relative. In the course of the investigation, it turned out that the man wanted to sell his powerful black BMW X6 for 17,000 euros on the Facebook Internet platform at the end of last year – and his disappearance is likely to be related to the sale of the car. “One person has expressed an interest in buying it,” said Marcus Neher, spokesman for the Salzburg public prosecutor’s office, to the APA. Since then there has been no trace of the man.
It is assumed that between January 2nd and 3rd there was a meeting with an interested party. The alleged buyer was then arrested on January 22nd and the BMW was secured. “Due to the circumstances, there is an urgent suspicion of the man. The car could have been taken from the victim by force and the man could have died,” said Neher.
The suspect is not Austrian, but is said to have lived in Salzburg. He is in custody and has not confessed. Because of the evidence relating there is much to suggest that he and the BMW are directly involved in the act, Neher said. Investigations are currently underway on suspicion of aggravated robbery resulting in death.
Police are asking for information about missing persons
The cell phone of the missing person was still logged in on the night of January 3rd in the Salzburg Untersberg area, the municipality of Nußdorf am Haunsberg (Flachgau) and near Maria Plain on the outskirts of Salzburg – then the phone disappeared from the network. However, the iPhone XS Max was switched on again two weeks later, on January 15 at 11:26 a.m., in the Salzburg-Aigen, Elsbethen or Glasenbach area. The police assume that someone has found and activated the phone and is trying to contact the finder (or other people who can provide information about the cell phone) with the Salzburg State Criminal Police Office. At the same time, the investigators are also looking for information from the population as to whether someone bought the black BMW with the Austrian license plate number S-381WH between Monday, January 2, 2023, 12:00 p.m. and Tuesday, January 3, 2023, 3:00 p.m.
