Next please…: Another change from FC Red Bull Salzburg to RB Leipzig? – Bundesliga
“Changing sides” in the “bull stable” from the right with “R” like Red Bull Salzburg links with an “L” like Leipzig have been booming for years. In recent years, 18 Red Bulls alone have made their way from the Mozart city to the trade fair city, from the Salzach to Saxony. Some will soon move on to Munich FC Bayern or were “ripe for the island” and “romp around” on the “meadows” of the Premier League clubs. For the coming summer RB Leipzig already Salzburg’s striker Benjamin Šeško committed (until June 30, 2026). Becomes an ÖFB team midfielder Nicholas Seiwald the next?
Not only takes responsibility at FC Red Bull Salzburg in standard situations: youngster Nicolas Seiwald, behind him “Oberbulle” Andreas Ulmer.
6 Ex-Salzburg players currently in Marco Rose’s RB Leipzig squad
At RB, respectively RasenBallsport Leipzig, there are six former Salzburg players in the squad of ex-RBS coach Marco Rose with goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi (the 32-year-old Hungarian is out longer after a cruciate ligament rupture), the midfield quartet Xaver Schlager, Amadou Haidara, Kevin Kampl and others
Nicolas Seiwald in Saxony in sight
This frees up a “position” in midfield, for which Nicolas Seiwald seems predestined and desired. According to the “Leipziger Volkszeitung”, coach Marco Rose, who knows the midfield all-rounder very well from his time in Salzburg, and those responsible have long had their sights set on the 21-year-old Kuchler. The RB Salzburg homegrown (already in the club at the age of 8) made a real quantum leap possible after moving from RBS cooperation partner FC Liefering to the Austrian series champions in summer 2020.
The redhead also made his debut in the ÖFB A team on November 12, 2021. In the meantime, the right-footed player has made 10 international appearances for the Rot-Weiss-Rot A-Team, which is now coached by former Salzburg sports director Ralf Rangnick.
In the club and team of head coach Matthias Jaissle, Nicolas Seiwald is the longest performer, his contract was only extended to June 30th, 2026 last summer. Now, in the event of a transfer, FC Red Bull Salzburg could be in for the next hefty transfer fee. Current market value of the two-time double winner with the Red Bulls: 20 million (source: transfermarkt.at).
“Red Bull DNA” internalized
It is not surprising that the Kuchler arouses desires at RB Leipzig. Seiwald has internalized the “Red Bull DNA” and, like Konrad Laimer from Aberse, was trained at FC Red Bull Salzburg in the academy. The high-flyer will be hard to keep up with the people of Mozart’s city.
Whether it will happen with a move to the “RB brother” in Leipzig in spring or summer may also depend on whether Max Eberl, the new sports director of the Champions League round of 16 (on February 22nd and March 14th vs. England’s champions Manchester City, with the ex-Salzburg assault tank Erling Haaland), will find another Laimer replacement. As with Eberl’s former club VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach with Manu Koné or Khéphren Thuram (OSG Nice).
Before the 90th compulsory game for RB Salzburg
So there is hope in the Salzburg camp that Nicolas Seiwald will not only play his 90th compulsory game in the FC Red Bull dress in the eagerly awaited Uniqa ÖFB quarter-final match against runner-up SK Sturm Graz next Friday (8:45 p.m., Red Bull Arena). Graduated from Salzburg, but also completed the “hundred” in the spring.
