Carbon-free aircraft project: a pillar of aeronautics in Toulouse draws new equipment

The year 2023 will be that of the continuation of a flagship project in the world of aeronautics: that of the carbon-free plane. As part of this development, the company Liebherr Aerospace From toulouse, which is also seeking to strengthen its workforce with 130 vacanciesdraw a brand new equipment.
Hydrogen at the heart of the project
Liebherr-Aerospace recalls the tenants and outcomes of an “emblematic” project, which encountered hydrogen at the heart of the experiment. This is then used as ” The source feeding fuel cells to produce sufficient electrical power, of the order of 400 kW, to supply all the non-propulsive systems of the next generation of aircraft”.
A newly installed cell
With the support of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Lieberr-Aerospace ” develops this power generation system“, in the Pink City. With brand new equipment to start the year.
“To evaluate this solution in a representative environment, the company, with the support of the Occitanie Region, recently equipped itself with a hydrogen cell installed in its test center on its Toulouse site. This new investment in the test facilities will allow Liebherr-Aerospace Toulouse to disable the ability to generate electrical power, using fuel cells, to power major electrical non-propulsion systems of a new-generation single-aisle aircraft, while ensuring overall thermal management.
An eye on CO2
Liebherr-Aerospace also explains that it is in the process of developing “new systems and equipment with less impact in terms of emissions, in particular CO2“. A collaboration with “the entire aeronautical sector” is currently underway.
Note that, still within the radius of the aeronautics of tomorrow, Airbus had announced, last November, the success of the very first flight using 100% sustainable fuel. A military plane in service, belonging to the Royal Air Force, had been fueled with used cooking oil.
