after the draw against OM, frustration…and a little bad faith
AS Monaco ended the series of eight consecutive victories in all competitions of theOlympic Marseille Saturday evening by going for a draw to encourage for the rest of the season at the Stade Vélodrome (1-1).
After opening the scoring in the first period on a but against his side from Jordan Veretout with a header (17th), the Principality club finally cracked as soon as they returned from the locker room. Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez, author of an XXL performance on Saturday evening, tied the two teams by deceiving Alexander Nübel with his right foot after a provisional first from Nuno Tavarez (47th). The two teams could have won, but sharing the points seems rather logical in this intense meeting, worthy of a European confrontation.
Clement’s regrets
At the final whistle, AS Monaco coach Philippe Clément was nevertheless overwhelmed by a feeling of frustration. “When you see the two games against Marseille, it could have been 6 out of 6 points. It must have been 6 out of 6”, named the Monegasque coach at a press conference. As a reminder, theOM won the first leg at the Louis II stadium (2-3). The latter especially regrets the missed opportunities before the break by his team. “We weren’t efficient enough in the first half. When you see the whole game, we have to win this game. We have to kill him. Great teams, great players, they kill a game like that. But it’s still positive to try to create chances in every game and play to win”he continued.
The controversial action of this match
Remember all the same that AS Monaco could have finished this meeting with ten against eleven. In the 73rd minute, theOM could have benefited from a penalty after an uncontrolled tackle from Maripan on Kolasinac in the penalty area. This big contact did not give rise to recourse to video arbitration insofar as the Bosnian defender had already released his shot when he was the victim of this big sole from the Monegasque player.
