Not rewarded, AS Monaco draw against OM
At the end of a crazy scenario, and after training in a completely mastered first period, the Red and Whites saved the point of the draw against Olympique de Marseille (1-1), in the shock of the 20th day of Ligue 1.
It was an announced summit, and it kept its promises! After being ahead on the scoreboard in an outrageously dominated first act, the AS Monaco players had to settle for a draw at the Vélodrome stadium against Olympique de Marseille (1-1). A point that allows the Principality club to retain its 4th place in the Ligue 1 standings. Report.
The context 📅
two weeks later the great success against Ajaccio (7-1 victory) to conclude the first part of the season in a good way, the Red and Whites travel to the Vélodrome stadium to begin the return phase of the French championship. A shock at the top, with the objective of bringing back a favorable result, to get closer to the podium and confirm away team form.
The result of the first leg didn’t fall on the right side for us, unfortunately, but it was true that it was a bit crazy. We strongly suggest winning this encounter. But like last year we had a timid first half there, yet in the end to win. It’s up to us to be focused in all aspects to put in a good performance.
About the first leg
The composition 👥
To do this, Philippe Clément decides to renew the system in 4-2-3-1 aligned in recent weeks. Suspended, Mohamed Camara is replaced by Eliot Matazo in the middle, while Eliesse Ben Seghir starts in support of Wissam Ben Yedder, which thus celebrates its 150th appearance with the Diagonal on its shoulders. Aleksandr Golovin and Krépin Diatta are in charge of animating the wings.

The scenario 🎞
In an incandescent start to the match, the attacking midfielder trained at the Academy stands out first (3rd), before Vanderson misses the target (5th), like his captain (15th). The replica of OM signed Ruslan Malinovski from afar (6th) does not cool the Red and Whites. The latter finally opened the scoring with a free kick from the Tsar, diverted into his own but by Jordan Veretout (0-1, 17th).
A big first period rewarded
Monegasque domination is flagrant, and Krépin Diatta (28th) then Wissam Ben Yedder (29th) offer themselves two big counter situations. But Ruben Blanco lost Marseille alive, even if he is happy to see the header of Memo Maripán (29th) and the volley of the Senegalese winger (43rd) flee the frame.
The men of Philippe Clement switch to the break with a goal in advance, to the delight of the visitors sector and the 400 red and white supporters present at the Vélodrome.

Before the OM rebellion
Unfortunately, the Olympians bowed with a completely different aggressiveness. And on Alexander Nübel’s first foray into the area, Nuno Tavares’ repelled strike was taken up close by Alexis Sanchez (1-1, 47′). The teammates of the Chilean international multiply the raids and Nuno Tavares are particularly dangerous (56th, 57th and 70th).
But it was on a header from Leonardo Balerdi pushed back by the crossbar that OM gave cold sweats to the 60,000 spectators (73rd). Free alert for the Red and Whites. The answer comes from Vanderson on the Monegasque side, found twice at the far post (82nd and 83rd). The last big chance will nevertheless be for Dimitri Payet, but his volley will crash into the side netting (87th).
It’s over with this parity score, which allows AS Monaco to stay 4th place in the elite.
