Live | PS Congress in Marseille, midday update: towards an agreement between Faure and Mayer-Rossignol
After two weeks of controversy, the French socialists seem very close to an agreement in the conflict between Olivier Faure, the first secretary of the outgoing PS, and his competitor Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, the mayor of Rouen. At midday, each of the two camps announced that the discussions expected since yesterday at the Pharo, where nearly a thousand activists gathered until tomorrow, were close to reaching a conclusion. “We are ready for an agreement”, launched, around 11:30 a.m., Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol. A little earlier, the mayor of Nantes, Johanna Rolland, Faure’s supporter, had indicated: “About 80% of the way.”
Sign of this relaxation: Benoît Payan, whose participation was expected this morning, arrived at midday at the Robert-Vigouroux auditorium. The mayor (DVG) of Marseille refused to make any statement before going to attend a round table devoted to international affairs.
Two main points were under discussion: the establishment of a collegiate leadership of the PS, and the allocation of the posts of first deputy or deputy secretaries, according to the proposals of the two camps; as well as participation in Nupes, a union of the left born from the last legislative elections, where the PS is notably allied with La France insoumise. If the discussions seemed to be going in the right direction on the first subject, uncertainties remain on the question of the union of the left. A question that should be decided during the vote of the 180 delegates of the Socialist Party, scheduled for 2 p.m.
