well-known restaurateur run over and killed by train
VENICE – He was walking with his wife, discussing, alongside the tracks on the Liberty bridge. Suddenly he got on the tracks just as from Santa Lucia station a train bound for Vicenza was arriving, which ran over him. So he died on Wednesday evening – January 25th – around 11.30pm, Oscar Stanziani49 years old, well-known Venetian restaurateur.
THE FACT
He and his wife were in the car on the Liberty bridge in the direction of Mestre. They stopped immediately after the second speed camera and got off, starting to walk – excitedly – in the walkway between the asphalt and the railway. After a few meters, the restaurateur decides to climb over the separating wall and start moving along the embankment. The arrival of the direct train in the Berico capital was fatal.
The accident, despite having occurred at a time when traffic is off peak, has paralyzed both the trains and the connections between Venice and Mestre to allow for rescue and relief work. Three trams were blocked for several minutes and a queue of cars filled the bridge from the point of the accident almost to Venice.
THE INVESTIGATIONS
The agents of the Venice railway police are investigating the case, also because there are more aspects to clarify. The first: why Stanziani decided to leave the pedestrian crossing that flanks the railway to get on the tracks. Is it possible, then, that he did not notice the arrival of the train? The investment is classified as an accident: the testimonies collected by the agents who arrived on the bridge have in fact clarified how the forty-nine-year-old restaurateur did not throw himself towards the train, seeing it arrive. The most probable hypothesis is that it was hooked or sucked in by the movement of air caused by the passage of the convoy.
THE MEMORY
“He was a good boy,” he says Dominic StanzianiOscar’s cousin and owner of the well-known restaurant At the Colombo – He was an entrepreneur in our sector, a vigorous boy, with a desire to do. He met her wife here: she worked at the counter and he came to visit her. They had moved, they had a daughter and also a grandson, today is a difficult day for us ».
