Religious leaders and EU discuss Ukraine in Brussels

Christian Kriegerthe chairman of the Conference of European Churches (CEC), paid tribute to the EU for being clearly and unequivocally divided from the very beginning of the Russian invasion, especially on economic and military solidarity, refugee status and sanctuaries. He hopes that the conflict would also spur the EU itself to tackle internal challenges. The time has come for Europe to assert and defend its values: values that strengthen justice, truth and paths to peace. At the same time, he called on the European institutions to remain vigilant about the consequences of the war on the collective, the social crisis and the heightened risk for democracies due to the populist discourse and the sweeping influence of radical parties.
