The leadership of the capital city of Prague joins the other 30 or so interested in buying the Jindřišská tower, officially confirming that it has submitted an offer to the Prague archdiocese. “Negotiations are currently underway with other interested parties, however, I believe that the city can also become a future acquirer,” Jan Chabr (TOP09), Prague City Councilor for property management, confirmed to Radiožurnál.

Jindřišská věž is included in the UNESCO cultural and natural heritage list as part of the Prague conservation area. The tower is almost 66 meters high and is the former bell tower of the nearby church of St. Henry and St. Kunhuta. It comes from the 15th century.

“It is in the negotiation phase, there is no clearly defined deadline, however the archdiocese clearly declares that it would like to resolve this in the first quarter of this year,” says Councilor Chabr so far.
According to the councilor, Prague takes into account that the archdiocese has developed plans for reconstruction. “There is a valid lease that says that the tenant takes care of the interior of the property under the contract, however, the exterior, meaning the roof, trusses and facade, should go to the owner, these are the things we work with. We are looking at it more comprehensively, if it is not possible to do a reconstruction, perhaps on a smaller scale,” he adds.
“With all the processed materials, the proposal will then go to the property committee and then to the council meeting so that colleagues can conscientiously decide whether the investment is beneficial for the city or not,” concludes Chabr.

As he stated Diary of N, Jindřišská věž is leased to Jindřišská věž s.r.o. for a long time, the contract is concluded until the end of 2044. The tower houses a souvenir shop, galleries and spaces for cultural programs. There is a restaurant on the seventh floor, and the Maria bell from 1518 on the eighth floor. In addition to the tower, the archbishopric also offers for sale land in Prague’s Letňany and Hrdlořez, as well as in Jesenice and Velké Popovice near Prague.
