Passionate as professionals fearing and contesting the ZFE of Toulouse
While the low emission zone (ZFE) of Toulouse was strengthened on January 1, 2023, the challenge, too, continues to grow stronger.
It is euphemistic to say that the Toulouse low-emissions zone is not unanimous. This is as much on the side of car and motorcycle enthusiasts as of other professional organisations.
Indeed, while this area has strengthened, banning all vehicles classified Crit’Air 4, 5 and beyond, from its scope as of January 1, 2023, the dispute is exacerbated. The individuals concerned are obviously not delighted, especially since according to various polls, more than 50% of French people are unaware of the existence of EPZs.
Enthusiasts and professionals defend the car and the motorcycle against the ZFE
A dispute that joins that initiated by associations and collectives of car and motorcycle enthusiasts. The latter, about thirty, have grouped together within Interclub ZFE 31. They competent in their ranks the French Federation of Angry Bikers (FFMC) or the Automobile Club du Midiassociation for the defense of motorists with 1,500 members.
In addition to the dispute, there are now also bodies linked to professionals. The first and not the least is the Medef, accompanied by all its professional sectors. Let us quote the CPME (small companies) or Mobilians, former national center of the professions of the automobile.
Anxiety and progress
These actors, like opposition politicians, express some concern facing the Toulouse ZFE. And their mobilization pays ! Small rider passextended aid,… the progress obtained thanks to the protest is real.
This will not fail to count, while the low emission zone of Toulouse Métropole must become more and more restrictive. The vehicles Crit’Air 3 normally produces the costs on January 1, 2024. The union of automobile professionals Mobilians Occitanie judges that more than 140,000 vehicles will then be prohibited traffic within this area. Toulouse Métropole argues, however, that this figure is 45,000.
Remember that Low Emission Zones have been set up in agglomerations of more than 150,000 inhabitants. What will concern 45 areas in France by 2025. Their aim is to limit traffic to vehicles considered to be the most polluting, in order to improve air quality.
