Apple less impacted than its competitors at the end of 2022
iPhone sales would have taken a nice leap in the last quarter of 2022 with a 14.9% drop in sales compared to the same period of the previous year, according to IDC estimates. On the other hand, Apple would not have to be ashamed of its performance during this complicated period: the Cupertino company would indeed record the least marked drop in sales in the sector, which would have fallen by 18.3% on average. In fact, the market share of the iPhone would therefore have increased during this period, from 23.1% to 24.1%.
The end of 2022 was rocked by a wave of very restrictive health measures in China, with factory closures and employee riots unhappy with their working conditions. While factories were idling at the most strategic time of the year, Apple had underestimated the demand for the iPhone 14 Pro and was leaving with an irrecoverable delay: in early November, Apple had warned that not everyone would be served for Christmas and from the end of November, it was no longer possible to receive a copy before the fateful date. Apple will announce its next quarterly financial results on February 2 and we should expect much less glorious figures than usual.
