The Parc de Gironis south of Toulouse will soon be redeveloped.
To the south of Toulouse, the Parc de Gironis has been under renovation since last December. Amenities for people with reduced mobility, caniparc, dry garden, orchard… enough to beautify the district.
In the Lafourguette district, the redevelopment of the Gironis park “is part of one of the rehabilitation projects for the Lafourguette district”, explains Nina Ochoa, district mayor. “We had a total budget of 450,000 euros in public investment for the district, with 200,000 euros reserved for this park,” adds the mayor. In March 2022, discussion groups made up of residents and neighborhood associations met to discuss the project. “We asked residents to create their “ideal park”, organizing their ideas around four main points, including security, redevelopment, accessibility and embellishment. We made a substantial sum available to them, with which they were able to propose the accommodations they thought necessary”. Together, the authorities and the inhabitants gradually had their ideas assessed. Work began in December 2022 and should be completed next March, according to the mayor’s announcements.
Refurbish and make more accessible
With these works, the town hall of Toulouse responds to the need to make it a greener city. But “the renovations above all allow the inhabitants to have equipment more suited to their daily use”, adds the mayor. The major change in the park: accessibility for people with reduced mobility (PRM). “When we designed the new park, it was inconceivable for us to ignore PRMs. In the coming days, we will be installing an access ramp at the entrance, as well as paved and sufficiently wide passages, so that they can circulate without problem”, concluded the mayor.
On February 1st, Madam Mayor, Nina Ochoa, accompanied by the Mayor of Toulouse, Jean Luc Moudenc will come and plant a symbolic tree in the park.
