Prague Main Station: A homeless man saved the lives of young people
A homeless man who lives at Prague’s main railway station has become an unexpected hero. When he was smoking a cigarette at the station with his acquaintance, whom he met after many years, he noticed that an underage boy was hanging from a nearby footbridge. He didn’t hesitate for a second and rushed to help him. His presence of mind saved the minor’s life.
The man met an acquaintance in the building of the main railway station in Prague. They hadn’t seen each other for fifteen years, so they both couldn’t wait to tell each other what was new between them after such a long time. They agreed to chat over cigarettes in a place where they had a good view of the nearby footbridge.
But in an instant, everything went wrong. “He was hanging from the footbridge by the hands of the young man and wanted to jump,” described Irena Seifertová, spokeswoman for the Prague city police. After the man saw the minor boy, he did not hesitate for a moment and ran to help him. Meanwhile, the woman was looking for additional reinforcements.

“I ran out and said, ‘Please, there’s someone hanging here, can you help me?'” she described. But no one helped her. When police officers and paramedics arrived at the scene, the young man was already safe. He was saved by 36-year-old Dan – a homeless man who lives at Prague’s main railway station.
“I talked to him: ‘You sure have some trouble, but screw those people, you’re still here.’ And I slowly went to him, not knowing what to do. As I held his hand, he let go,” he described.
“Sometimes the hero is someone we wouldn’t tell. It doesn’t matter what we look like, who we are, what we do. On our behalf, we owe Daniel a huge thank you, and I believe that I will repay his fate in good faith,” added Seifertová.
