A municipal asset since 1857
The town hall of Toulouse owns theHôtel de Lestang since 1857. The premises include the hotel but also the annexes and almost all the outdoor spaces. The history of these places goes back to 1593, when the bishop Christopher de Lestang choose to create a private mansion on its 3,000 m2 property.
The heritage remains in his family until 1857. The town hall of Toulouse then installs the rector there, “in application of the law of 1806 which indicates the responsibility for the accommodation of rectors to the municipalities”. According to the municipality, the hotel “did not know any notable change for more than a century”, with the exception of the renovations of 1899 and 1909. It was in 1961 that the rector Paul Dotin decide on the extension of the premises and the transformation of the hotel.
