Florence, anarchist arrested: he is accused of 6 attacks on the high-speed line
An anarchist from the province of Florence suspected of being the author of six attacks carried out in a period between August 28 and December 28 against the high-speed railway line that connects Florence to Bologna, in the sections passing through the localities of San Piero a Sieve and Firenzuola.
Today the Digos of Florence proceeded with the execution of the precautionary custody order issued by the Gip of the Court of Florence against the thirty-year-old, following the investigations coordinated by the Public Prosecutor of Florence – District Anti-terrorism Directorate, and under the operational profile of the Central Directorate of the Prevention Police. In a note released by the anti-mafia district attorney Luca Tescaroli, who directed the investigation, “the action falls within the context of the more violent campaign of anarchist groups against the Tav”.
The alleged crimes against arrest are those envisaged and punished by article 432 of the penal code (attack on transport safety, penalty from 1 to 5 years), by article 81, paragraph 1 (continued crime which aggravates the main penalty up to three times), aggravated by article 270 bis of the criminal code, 1st paragraph (association for terrorist purposes, association that intends to commit acts of violence for terrorist purposes, sentence from 7 to 15 years).
The investigative elements were acquired during the preliminary inspections phase also thanks to the contribution of the Florence Railway Police Department and the local Interregional Cabinet of the Scientific Police, continuing with the performance by the Florentine Digos, explains a note from the investigators, “of typical of a technical nature, but above all atypical activities consisting of feedback on the territory, stalking and observations”.
The damages caused by the attacks, according to the prosecutor’s office, are of a considerable economic entity and concerned equipment required to ensure the safety of travelers in the event of accidents. In one criminal episode, among other things, the control panel of the ventilation system serving the tunnel affected by one of the attacks was damaged, which in the event of a railway accident would not have allowed the correct outflow of the fumes produced.
The aggravating circumstance for terrorism reasons can be seen in the fact that the high-speed line has for some time been the object of attacks by national anarchist groups, associations with which the subject maintains stable contacts, at least in the provincial ambit.
Checks are underway on the position of two minors – the investigations in this case are coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Juvenile Court of Florence – regarding their possible involvement in one of the six criminal episodes.
