the town hall cancels readings for children animated by drag queens
The town hall of Toulouse decided on Tuesday to deprogram reading workshops for children led by drag queens in one of its media libraries, because of the reactions provoked by the event.
“This choice of programming – which did not give rise to any visa or endorsement from elected officials – can destabilize part of the public. This is obviously not the will of the Collectivity”, explains the town hall of Toulouse, in a statement.
“For the sake of appeasement”, continues the town hall, the reading intended for a young audience and scheduled for February 18 “will be reoriented to accommodate only an adult audience”.
“Certain reactions can cause disturbances to public order”, we added on the side of the town hall.
“Furie Française” and La Manif for all
La Manif pour tous was indignant on Twitter at the organization of this reading and a small group called Furie française, presenting itself on Instagram as “Toulouse and rooted community youth movement”, had launched a petition against the event.
The mayor of Toulouse, Jean-Luc Moudenc (DVD), also claims “to Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, the dissolution of the ‘French Fury’ movement, at the origin of the threats and the disturbance in the public order”, underlines the press release from the town hall.
Threats made
Tuesday afternoon, the online petition had been deleted but according to the Toulouse media, it had been accompanied during its publication by violent reactions and threats aroused by certain Internet users.
The initial reading workshop intended “to sensitize the young public to the difference, in a playful way”, according to the town hall. Contacted, Shanna Banana, one of the two drag queens who normally hosts these readings, could not be reached immediately.
