Croatia’s bids still remain in the January transfer window, including the World Cup finalists
We are still a week away from the closing of the January transfer window, and there are still some offers, including a Croatian defender who played in the World Cup final just a few years ago.
As expected after the very successful World Cup in Qatar, there are many rumors surrounding the Croatian players. Probably the biggest move so far was Union Berlin’s signing of Croatian right-back Josip Juranović from Scottish champions Celtic. It may not have been the most glamorous transfer, but it was still the biggest transfer paid by Union Berlin in history.
Currently, the most expensive Croatian without a contract is Šime Vrsaljko, who according to Transfermarkt is worth four million euros, left Olympiacos and is looking for a new club. Vrsaljko played in the World Cup final in Moscow in 2018 and after a long career at Atlético Madrid, he moved to Olympiacos, but left the club by mutual consent after just nine games. He played a total of 52 games for Croatia.
Right behind him is Filip Bradarić, another player who played at the World Cup in Russia 2018, but was injured and has a long recovery ahead of him. Then there is Ante Majstorović, a 29-year-old stopper who left Osijek for 3.3 million euros and went to China.
And the list doesn’t stop there, there are still plenty of famous names without a club. Jozo Šimunović left Dinamo for 7.5 million euros and went to Celtic, but injuries prevented him from making a bigger career.
