Out for Liensberger coach Livio Magoni in Austria – Alpine skiing
Livio Magoni is no longer a ski coach in Austria.
It’s been rumbling for weeks within the Austrian women’s national ski team. Katharina Liensberger in particular was publicly dissatisfied. Now her coach Livio Magoni has thrown in the towel.

Since April 2022, Liensberger has been looked after by her special trainer Magoni. This should establish the Vorarlbergerin in the absolute world class, after Liensberger had previously knocked there sporadically. But now, less than a year later, everything is different.
As the ÖSV announced on Monday, Magoni has retired as Liensberger’s coach. Although racing director Thomas Trinker speaks of a surprising farewell, yes the end of Magoni had become apparent. The Italian is seen as a hard worker who demands the highest levels of willingness and work ethic from his athletes. Magoni was very successful with Tina Maze and Petra Vlhova, among others. Other skiers, like Slovenia’s Meta Hrovat, didn’t get along with Magoni’s way of working.
Magoni: “Expectations not met with Katharina”
Liensberger was apparently too harsh in Magoni’s style. The reasonable technician has been in a hole in the current season and has not been able to achieve any top positions to date. The original plan was to create a runner who could compete in the overall World Cup. This plane failed with a bang. “It was not planned that our path would end prematurely due to technical, logistical and organizational misunderstandings,” Magoni is quoted as saying in an ÖSV broadcast. At the same time, the Italian regrets that he “did not meet expectations in working with Katharina”. After losing her personal trainer, Liensberger is reintegrated into the “normal” technical group of the Austrians.
