In 2023, the feast of lunar new year took place on Saturday 21 January. This new year placed under the bunny sign was celebrated everywhere in China and in a multitude of other countries where the Chinese spirit is present. At Neubourg (Eure)the Kung Fu club, in partnership with the Asian product store Actethics, decided this year to organize a nice parade, for the first time in the city center.
Lions and dragons with a thousand fires
The Neubourgeois Kung Fu club, directed by Virginie Leplanois, has 120 members. 25 members of the club did not hesitate to slip into the brilliants four lions costumes and to animate the two huge dragons, all adorned with sparkling ornaments. During the dancing parade in the center of the city, they were accompanied by all the members of the association and a large number of onlookers providing the show, to the sounds of music composed by Christophe Machon, director of the school of music from Pont-de-l’Arche and himself a member of the Kung Fu club.
Happiness and prosperity for all
The start and finish of the parade took place in front of Samuel Vanauney’s store, rue du Champ de Bataille. To respect the tradition, one of the lions devoured a lettuce suspended in front of the entrance of the store. The lion kept an envelope hidden inside the salad, it will be the troop lucky charm. This event is also supposed to bring good luck and source of prosperity and happiness for the spectators gathered as well as for the city of Neubourg.
